Last week, we had the exciting opportunity to present at the International Dementia Conference, discussing the importance of dementia care in community settings and how we can better support families throughout the journey. With 70% of those living with dementia residing in the community (and not in residential care), this was a critical conversation. We also presented our 'Your Guide to Implementing Person-driven Care' for home care professionals alongside partners Sarah Yeates from Caladenia Dementia Care and Elizabeth Baxter from VMCH. This project is based on the data and finding from our world-first practical dementia tools and comprehensive dementia journey. The project is funded by Equity Trustees and Wicking Trust on behalf of The Sir John Minogue Bequest and John Saville Eastwood Estate.
It was also fantastic to meet and listen to inspiring presentations from like-minded, passionate individuals—people living with dementia, carers, and professionals. Topics included dementia care and first responders, managing behavioural changes, new approaches to the care environment, future care technology, Canada’s care reform approach, sexuality and intimacy, palliative care, and complex care in the home.
A special thanks to Dementia Support Australia for this incredible opportunity.
