You can break Topics into a series of training sessions, such as incontinence, or undertake an interactive workshop on how to handle daily challenges or changes such as personal hygiene.
Champion's note
In an earlier Scenario, we used the Topics and Sections as a guide to develop care plans for specific clients and carers.
As a dementia champion, you play a pivotal role in driving dementia care excellence in your organisation. You can use the PRO to guide you to develop dementia training programs for your frontline workers to build their capability in dementia care.
This is important as frontline workers will likely have the most contact time with clients and families, where they will need the skills to offer the best outcomes possible.
For example, you could:
-
run a series of weekly sessions on a Topic such as incontinence, covering one Section each week using the videos and links in the PRO, such as why incontinence happens and the causes, how to manage it, how to manage it when the person with dementia is out and about, additional training resources, and more.
-
host workshops or undertake role plays for challenges in personal hygiene, including what works and what doesn’t in challenges with bathing, showering, washing up, changing cloth, grooming and more.
-
Etc.
You may not need to cover every Topic within the PRO, but it can form a starting point and guide to help you prioritise the areas that are a focus for your organisation or are experiencing challenges in.
