Updated: Nov 10, 2022

Our thoughts go out to all families who are impacted by the floods around Australia. We hope you and your family are safe.

We continue to work hard and improve the way everyone can be supported on the dementia journey. Our latest are below:

  • A new Section “What is dementia and dementia care? What do they mean to you?” has been created for the CARER app, which outlines the basics of dementia care and what it means for a family or friend carer, including mapping out the dementia journey

  • A new Topic ”Pain and dementia” was added to provide useful resources to help people identify and manage pain in dementia, which is very common and can lead to changed behaviours

  • A new Topic ”Delirium and dementia” has been created because delirium is common and can lead to seriously poor outcomes. It can alsobe confused with changes in perception, such as delusion, etc.

  • Almost one hundred content updates including new resources and new Sections, such as accusation and paranoia, PRO tutorial resources on care assessment and care planning, and more.

Our Contributors Award winner is Lyn from NSW, who has won a $50 gift voucher for sharing over 10 constructive suggestions and feedback. We thank her for her amazing support!

Content updates

A new Section “What is dementia and dementia care? What do they mean to you?”

Many carers often start the dementia care journey suddenly. Then they become busier and busier many of them never have the chance to ask or learn about what dementia care actually means for them, or what lies ahead, e.g. what does a dementia journey look like?

These are important questions because it forms the foundation and understanding for any family’s approach to caring.

Within the CARER tool, we have created a Section called “What is dementia and dementia care? What do they mean to you?” within the Topic “Welcome! Start here for carer basics & more”.

You can find this Topic in the "More Topics" tab in the CARER app, or click here to learn about it on our website.

New Topic "Pain and dementia"

Pain can be troublesome for healthy individuals at the best of times. For people living with dementia, it can be extra challenging to manage, because it’s harder to identify (due to dementia reducing people's ability to talk about it).

This makes pain triggered changed behaviours and daily challenges common and leads to poorer quality of life.

This is an important subject to cover, and you can find this Topic in the "More Topics" tab (CARER app) or "All info" tab (the PRO app), or search for it with keywords such as "pain".

It is also links to the Topic “Understanding unmet needs, daily challenges and behaviours”.

New Topic "Delirium and dementia"

Delirium can be difficult to recognise and if left unmanaged promptly, it can become a serious medical condition.

We have curated the new Topic “Delirium and dementia” to help you learn how to recognise it early and thus manage it appropriately.

you can find this Topic in the "More Topics" tab (CARER app) or "All info" tab (the PRO app), or search for it with keywords such as “delirium” etc.

Note: minor updates are not documented here, such as some wording changes, URL changes, reference updates etc.
